Volume 276

Happy Easter! In this week's coolsh*t James and Roisin are giving you some ideas for how you can spend this glorious bank holiday weekend. We've got Fleabag, Lady Gaga and even the chance to become an astronaut for the day with NASA's virtual tour of space. Enjoy and remember, stay at home.

Stay At Home With Your Favourite Pop Stars.

Is it just me or is the best part about this whole WFH thing that you get to see into your colleague’s houses and judge their choice of furniture and artwork? If you agree, you’ll be happy to know you can now do the same with your favourite pop stars. Global Citizen has teamed up with the World Health Organisation to announce One World: Together at Home, a concert to support the health care workers who are battling coronavirus. The lineup includes Lady Gaga, Billie Eilish, Lizzo and John Legend who will all be performing live from their mansions. It’s being screened pretty much everywhere including Facebook, Instagram and Twitch. At this rate it looks like it’s going to be the only concert you will see this year, so don’t miss it.

Mundane Masterpieces.

It must be nice to be artistically talented at a time like this. While I spend my spare moments watching The Chase and thinking about sugar, some people are using this time to create. But even if you can’t do, you can at least still observe. Hence why I’ve been enjoying the ItsNiceThat.com weekly briefs lately. This week, the brief was, aptly, “Create an illustration showing a fun activity you can do by yourself”. So not only are there some great designs in here, you can also pick up some tips for keeping busy in isolation. Although going on a date with yourself sounds dodgy, so don’t do that. And if you do, definitely don’t talk about it.

What To Do When You Can't Protest IRL.

Being on lockdown is taking a lot of us back in time to our childhood. We’re living with our parents, arguing with siblings over the TV remote, moaning about what mum’s going to make for dinner, and most enjoyably, playing animal crossing. The game caused a frenzy when it returned to Nintendo Switch in xx and many of us at ZAK have been hooked ever since. An interesting development has taken place over the past couple of weeks in Hong Kong, where protestors are using the game to continue their fight for freedom at a time when they can’t occupy the streets IRL. Who’d have ever thought the cute little animals could be dragged into such important political issues. Anything can happen, people.

Bring Back Fleabag.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge, if you’re reading this (which I’m sure you are), I’m asking on behalf of the nation that you write another series of Fleabag. Come on, you’ve got a bit more time on your hands with this whole isolation thing so do us all a favour? While you’re doing that, we’ll watch the original one woman show version of Fleabag from which the TV hit was born. For a small charitable donation you can catch it on Soho Theatre’s on-demand streaming site or on Prime Video in the UK.

Out of This World.

I used to toy with the idea of being an astronaut when I was a kid. But it turned out I lacked the aptitude, attitude and upper body strength. Well, as luck would have it, we can now have the experience of being an astronaut without even having to sit up, as NASA have just launched their new interactive platform ‘NASA at Home’. There’s a bunch of previously unreleased books and podcasts – which I’m sure are great. But 7-year-old me didn’t want to read or hear about space, he wanted to feel space. So I skipped these and went straight to the virtual tour of the International Space Station. I then immediately felt a bit sick and remembered why I’m not an astronaut. But don’t let my delicate sensibility put you off – it’s definitely still worth a look.

Yeezy x Antiques Roadshow.

This is not a crossover I ever expected to see. Turns out that before he became a College Dropout, Kanye West was a pretty decent artist in High school. A 17-year-old Yeezus’ artwork was appraised on the US Antiques Roadshow this week – and it’s actually pretty good (at least according to some lady in the clip). But is this any surprise? This is the same artistic genius who once said: “Pockets on Shrek, Rockets on deck. Tell me what’s next? Alien Sex”. Pure poetry that. Could also be Kanye’s notes for how to improve NASA at Home.
