COOL SH*T

Volume 149

WARNING! CLOWNS AHEAD!

Even if it is due to the success of the horror remake of ‘It’, clowns have creeped back to become a staple of pop culture. Audi, however, has outsmarted the trend and created a surrealist fantasy social video that beautifully compliments the car’s advanced technological features. Directed by Ringan Ledwidge, it is bound to be one of 2017’s favourite campaigns.

So, get your phones out and let the hunt begin!

WHO’S THE NEXT OFFICIAL ROCKNROLLER?

For all music fans out there, it’s that time of the year again to cast your vote on who should be the next inductee into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The list is long and very versatile from Judas Priest to LL Cool J, which shows that Rock n’ Roll as a genre is not even mandatory. Some nominees are also apathetic towards the induction, with Radiohead stating that they just don’t care if they get in or not. May the best musicians win!

THE ‘AVERAGE’ LIFE OF ROB

For Instagram star Average Rob, the statement ‘fake it until you make it’ is a pillar for his art. With his amazing Photoshop skills, he seamlessly inserts himself into the photos of celebrities, cosying up with to the movers and shakers of the pop-culture scene. Working as a journalist for Belgian comedy magazine Humo, his lack of inspiration and ideas seems never ending and so is our craving for more snaps from this imaginary ‘it’ boy.

SNACKING WITH NICOLAS CAGE

Worst idea of publicity or marketing brilliance? Ahead of its Japanese cinematic release, the 2016 movie Army of One is offering advanced ticket-purchasers a limited-edition Nicolas Cage corn puff snack. Yes, it’s Nicolas Cage’s face on the Umaibo snack which usually sells for $0.08. Unfortunately, it’s only available in Japan but no doubt this strange promotional snack will show up on auction sites like eBay before too long so don’t worry! You still might get a chance to say that you know what a ‘Nicolastick’ tastes like.

THE ART OF LOS ANGELES

Agency 72andSunny has rebranded La-La-Land and given the creative city a striking new logo. The open design is meant to indicate the creative space that the diverse city provides and the campaign L.A. Original, made for the office of Mayor Eric Garcetti, is meant to stimulate the local economy by drawing new businesses to town. It also promotes the L.A. Original platform that showcases the city’s diverse makers and sells their goods through a line of branded product with proceeds supporting creative entrepreneur programs across Los Angeles.
